It started the summer of 2002,
When the Springfield librarian, Molly McGrew,
By mistake drove her bookmobile into the zoo.
It is not at all surprising that Wild About Books won the E.B. White Read Aloud Award, because this is one book that was made for reading aloud. I love books about books anyway, but Wild About Books is one of the best. Marc Brown’s colour-saturated, double-spread paintings are the perfect complement to Judy Sierra’s joyous, rhyming story about the wonderful world opened up to us in the pages of a book.
One of the things I like best about Wild About Books is that the author goes beyond simply telling us that books are great, from talking about how to take care of our books to extolling the joys of writing for ourselves.
